Stanford, Calif. - Despite outscoring their opponents 9-6 in the second half, the Pacific men's water polo team fell to Stanford by a score of 20-11 in Stanford, Calif. on Sept. 22. With the loss the Tigers fell to 3-7 on the season, while the Cardinal snapped a two game losing streak and improved to 4-2 on the year.
Seniors Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) and Duje Kaurloto (Split, Croatia), who currently lead the Tigers in scoring this season, also led the Tigers in scoring in Saturday's loss. Bakic and Kaurloto each netted three goals in the game, improving their season totals to 31 and 20 on the year respectively.
Other scorers for the Tigers were Shane Mahoney (Lodi, Calif.), Will Milcovich (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Andy Skora (San Clemente, Calif.), and Kenny Yamamoto (San Juan Capistrano). Mahoney scored two goals in the game, while Milcovich, Skora, and Yamamoto each netted single goals for the Tigers in the loss.
Stanford goalie, Sandy Hohener kept the Tigers from scoring more goals in the game by saving 15 shots in the contest. Brian Domecus (Vallejo, Calif.) also saved an impressive ten shots on goal for the Tigers.
Pacific will next be back in action on Sept. 27, when they take on Cal in Berkeley, Calif. to open MPSF play. The game will start at 6:00 p.m.
