No. 16 Tigers Fall to No. 4 Stanford in Opening Game of NorCal Tournament

Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific men's water polo team suffered a 14-9 opening game loss to Stanford in the NorCal water polo tournament on Sept. 15 in Berkeley, Calif. With the loss the Tigers fell to 2-4 on the season, while Stanford improved to a perfect 2-0 on the year.

Seven different athletes netted goals for the Tigers in the loss as seniors Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) and Duje Kaurloto (Split, Croatia) each led the team netting two goals a piece in the contest. Other Pacific scorers included Kenny Yamamoto (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), Shane Mahoney (Lodi, Calif.), Lorin Bartlett (Porterville, Calif.), Mike Struempf (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), and Jonathan Pare (Westlake, Calif.). They each scored a goal a piece in the game.

Junior goalkeeper David Andrus (Houston, Texas) was in the cage for the Tigers. He recorded eight blocks in the game and only allowed two goals in the second half.

The Tigers' next game of the NorCal tournament will be against Navy, as the Midshipmen suffered a 13-12 opening round loss to UC Irvine earlier today. This will be the second time this year the Tigers will have played the Midshipmen. Pacific fell to Navy in overtime earlier this year in Annapolis, Maryland.
