Princeton, New Jersey - The No. 8 ranked Pacific men's water polo team improved their weekend record to 4-0 at the Princeton Invitational with victories over Queens College and Iona. The Tigers defeated Queens by the score of 23-3 before taking out Iona by a margin of 18-7. With the victories, the Tigers improve their record to 6-3 on the season.
In game one against Queens, the Tigers were dominate in recording a 9-0 advantage at the half, as seven Pacific players scored. Pacific continued to pour it on offensively against the Knights, leading 15-1 after three periods before adding eight more goals in the fourth to account for the 23-3 final.
Sophomore Shane Mahoney (Lodi, Calif.) and junior Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) led the Tigers offensively, scoring four goals apiece, while sophomore Grant Hollis (Redlands, Calif.) and senior Matt Turnbull (Act, Australia) added three each. Mahoney's four goals were the first in his career at Pacific.
In the second game of the day against Iona, the Tigers again got off to a hot start, taking a 9-2 lead into the halftime break. Pacific then outscored the Gaels 9-5 in the second half to account for the 18-7 margin. Sophomores Will Milcovich (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Hollis each scored three goals to lead the Tigers.
Pacific will be back in action on Saturday, September 16th at the NorCal Tournament, where they will face a field of the top polo teams in the nation. The Tigers, who are seeded fifth in the tournament, will open the tournament against No. 13 Long Beach State before facing either No. 4 Stanford or No. 12 Navy in the second game.
