No. 8 Pacific Falls to No. 14 UC Davis 12-7

Davis, Calif. - The No. 8 ranked Pacific men's water polo team fell to No. 14 ranked UC Davis by the score of 12-7 in Davis, Calif. on Nov. 4th, 2006. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 14-12 while UC Davis improves to 13-12 on the season.

Pacific jumped out to a 2-1 lead on goals by fellow Croatian juniors Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) and Duje Kaurloto (Split, Croatia) early on in the first period of play. The Aggies countered with two of their own to take a 3-2 lead before senior co-captain Matt Turnbull (Act, Australia) found the back of the cage on a five-meter penalty shot to tie the score at 3-3. The Tigers retook the lead on a power play goal by Kaurloto, but Davis scored again with :12 seconds remaining to make the game 4-4 entering the second period.

In the second period, UC Davis outscored the Tigers 3-0 to take a 7-4 lead into halftime on goals by Trevor Long, Joseph Smith and David Welch. Pacific cut the gap to one in the third period at 7-6 on goals by senior co-captain Clint McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) and junior Andy Skora (San Clemente, Calif.), before the Aggies answered back with two goals of their own to make the score 9-6 after three.

In the fourth period, Kaurloto scored his third goal of the game on a five-meter penalty to make the score 9-7 in favor of the Aggies. UC Davis went on to score the final three goals of the game to account for the final score of 12-7.

The Tigers return home to face No. 3 ranked UCLA on Sunday, Nov. 5th. Opening sprint is scheduled for 12 noon.
