ANNAPOLIS, MD.- The No. 12 ranked Pacific Tigers Men's Water Polo team defeated George Washington 14-7 and Salem International (WV) 9-6 to start the season 2-0 at the Navy Open.
In the first match of the day, senior goalkeeper Marko Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) recorded nine saves, seven steals, and six assists to lead the Tigers. Junior Kenny Yamamoto (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), and sophomore Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) had 4 goals each to pace Pacific offensively. Senior Adam Zobler (San Jose, Calif.) had 3 goals, while senior Will McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.), junior Matt Turnbull (Act, Australia), and junior Clint McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) each added a goal apiece to round out the scoring for the Tigers.
In game two, Turnbull added three goals, two kick outs drawn, one assist and one steal, in a game that saw Pacific come back from a 3-1 deficit after the first period of play. Will McLaughlin had three goals, while Yamamoto, Zobler and Bakic each had a shot touch the back of the net.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow to finish out the tournament, as they play tournament host No. 15 Navy at 10:30am (et), before taking on fellow No. 12 ranked St. Francis at 2:30pm (et).
