Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's water polo team dropped a 9-8 decision to the Santa Clara Broncos. With the loss the Tigers are 7-4 on the season, while the Broncos improved to 8-5 this year.
The Tigers jumped out in front of Santa Clara 1-0 in the first period and held a 5-2 edge as the game entered the third period.
After the two teams traded goals at the start of the frame, Santa Clara scored three straight goals to even the contest at 6-6 as the game moved into the final quarter.
Twice the Tigers took the lead in the fourth period as junior Matt Mitchell (San Diego, Calif.) put Pacific ahead 8-7 midway through the fourth. Santa Clara's Jack Wall, however, tied the game with 1:35 remaining, then notched the game winning goal with just three seconds remaining.
Senior Will McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) and his younger brother Clint McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) led the Tigers with two goals each in the game.
Pacific will be back in action later this evening as the Tigers play Stanford at 7 p.m.
