IRVINE, Calif.: The No. 12 Pacific men's water polo team defeated No. 13 UC Davis 9-7 in the opening game of day two at the SoCal Tournament.
Both teams mirrored their play from a week earlier in Stockton, as for the second straight match between the two schools, the score was tied at four at the half. The game was deadlocked at 6-6 heading into the fourth period, where the Tigers outscored the Aggies 3-1 to record the two goal victory.
Brothers Clint and Will McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) paced the Tigers with three goals apiece, while junior Matt Mitchell provided a spark with three steals and three kick-outs drawn.
"It's tough to beat the same team twice in one season, let alone one week," Pacific head coach Mike Maroney said. "The McLaughlin brothers carried us with their six goals, and Matt Turnbull played really well, drawing us two 4M penalty shots."
With the victory, Pacific moves on to play in the 9th place game against No. 9 Loyola Marymount at 4:40pm.
