Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's water polo team dropped an 11-5 decision to No. 1 USC on Sunday, Nov. 13. The loss moved Pacific to 17-10 on the season and 2-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). USC, meanwhile, moved to 20-1 overall and 7-0 in the MPSF.
The top ranked Trojans broke out to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter and held an 8-2 edge at halftime.
Trailing 9-2 after three periods, the Tigers scored the first three goals of the final period as seniors Will McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.) and Adam Zobler (San Jose, Calif.) combined for three goals to pull the Tigers within four at 9-5 with 1:38 remaining in the game. USC, however, closed the game with back-to-back goals to close the contest.
Pacific will be back in action later on Sunday, Nov. 13 as the Tigers close out their home schedule at 3 p.m. against UC Santa Cruz. Prior to the game, Pacific seniors McLaughlin, Zobler and Marko Popovic (Belgrage, Serbia) will be honored as they play their final home game at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
