Pacific defeats No. 8 Long Beach State, 7-5

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's water polo team got three goals each from senior Adam Zobler (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Matt Turnbull (Act, Australia) as the Tigers defeated Long Beach State, 7-5, on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Pacific jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first period as Turnbull scored two of his three goals in the period.

The Tigers extended the lead to 4-2 on Zobler's second goal of the game with 4:42 remaining in the second period.

Long Beach State responded with back-to-back goals to tie the game with 3:40 left until halftime. Satoshi Sakata and Reid Tomassi scored for the 49ers.

Pacific regained the lead in with just under a minute to play in the second period as Zobler notched his third goal of the game.

Sophomore Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) scored the only goal of the third period to give Pacific a 6-4 advantage heading to the final period.

Long Beach State's Jay Gerardi converted a four-meter penalty to make it a one goal contest with 5:47 remaining in the game, but the Tigers defense shut down the 49er attack the rest of the way.

Turnbull scored the final goal of the game with 2:14 remaining to push the Tigers lead back to two goals at 7-5 and seal the victory for Pacific.

Gerardi had two goals to lead the 49ers.

Pacific is back in action later on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. as the Tigers host the Santa Clara Broncos.
