Oakland, Calif. - Pacific Cross Country took first place at the Mills College Invitational today, scoring a perfect 15 points in the team competition.
Individually, Sarah Bailey (Vernon, B.C., Canada) finished second with a time of 29:22 to pace the Tigers over the challenging course.
Pacific' Dale Dong (Stockton, Calif.) improved her 33:56 time last year by 2:36, finishing 5th overall with a time of 31:30.
Coach Josh Jones was happy with his team's performance in the race, which served as important training for some rigorous late season races.
"Today was a training day. The other competition wasn't what I expected when we showed up today. I was really proud of how our runners helped out their teammates to set personal records (for this course) on this tough slow course."
Jones continued, "Dale Dong improved over 2:30 seconds on this course from a year ago. I can't wait to see what she runs at the end of the year. And you really can't beat a perfect score. I'm looking forward to our weekend off and hosting the high school race."
Pacific will be back on the course after taking next weekend off. The Orange and Black returns for the West Regional Preview in Sacramento on October 4th.
