Tigers Cross Country Travels To San Diego For Triton Classic
Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific Cross Country team travels to San Diego, Calif. Saturday October 8, for the Triton Classic. It is a 6K event that the Tigers ran at last season.
After the week off from competition head coach Josh Jones is excited for a different type of course at the Triton Classic saying, "the course begins in an open field on grass, the runners come up a hill and start a road trail." He added, "it is a fun course and should be a great last 6K before we head to the Big West Championships."
The Tigers fastest times have come from freshman Katie Castro, and Jones looks to get a strong race out of his first year runner saying, "she had a great week of practices and is running very well. She feels great and this will be a great race to see her progression up to this point."
The Tigers will once again not be at 100 percent for the race as Melissa Hopper, Cassi Rush, and Monica Torres battle sickness. Jones added, "we have been hit with sicknesses this season. Rush and Torres are finally on the downswing of it, but Hopper just got it and is day-to-day."
With the flu bug around the team Jones will look for others to step up saying, "Jazmin Quiroz and Rebecca Tuttle ran well this week, and I am looking for a strong effort from them."
Other notable competition at the Triton Classic includes UC San Deigo, Cal Poly, Western New Mexico and the Big West's UC Irvine.
After this weekend's race the Tigers head to the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. on October 15.
