Tigers Cross Country Season Begins Saturday

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific Cross Country team will kick off its 2011 campaign at the Battle of the Bay in Belmont, Calif. this Saturday. This is the second annual race, which was lengthened from a 2.95 mile run to a 6000m race this year. Head Coach Josh Jones is excited to see how his team runs in the season opener saying, "this is a race to evaluate where you are from their summer times."

The Battle of the Bay will be "the team's hilliest course all season with challenging steep hills" Jones added, "I hope we, as a team, place high this year. I think senior Jazmin Quiroz and freshmen Katie Castro and Rebecca Tuttle have a great opportunity to individually place high."

Last season, Quiroz placed 21st with a time of 20.44:00. The team placed fifth at the Battle of the Bay with sophomore Melissa Hopper individually placing sixth with a time of 19.36:00. This season due to an injury Hopper will be limited, but Jones is hopeful she can still compete.
