#9 Women's Water Polo Cruises Over Concordia, 17-2

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 9 Pacific women's water polo team coasted to a 17-2 victory over Concordia in a Golden Coast Conference game Saturday.  Ellen Tiedemann, Rachel Krieger and Kyra Christmas each posted hat tricks.

Mariana Duarte, Karolina Hlavata and Kennedy Watson each posted two goals while     Viktoria Szmodics and Catie Mahnke recorded the others.

Samantha Pfaff made her first career start in goal and surrendered just two goals, one on a 6-on-5 opportunity for Concordia.

Pacific finished 2-for-2 on the power play, and held Concordia to 1-of-7 with the advantage. The Tigers converted on 17 of 37 shots, and held the Eagles to 2 of 17 shooting for the game.

Christmas, Krieger and Hlavata gave the Tigers an early 3-0 lead, and after a goal from CUI's Ramsie Haskell, Duarte tallied for a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.

Krieger and Duarte stretched the lead to 6-1 in the second before Tiedemann and Mahnke scored even strength goals. Szmodics rounded out the first half scoring as Pacific led 9-1 after two quarters.

In the third, Tiedemann's second came on a power play, and Watson converted an 11-1 lead. Back-to-back goals from Christmas made it 13-1 before Jastine Vazquez picked up the second Concordia goal at the 0:39 mark.

Krieger and Tiedemann completed their hat tricks early in the fourth, and Watson scored with 3:16 to play as Pacific ran the clock down on the win.

Pfaff made three saves in goal, while Concordia goalkeeper Madelynn Knust posted seven.

Hlavata racked up four assists while Christmas added three. Truly Dorland also provided a helper on the evening.

The Tigers improve to 16-8 on the year, and 4-1 in the GCC. Concordia falls to 7-15 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Pacific will return to action on Thursday, April 20, at Fresno Pacific in a GCC match at 6 p.m. before hosting Santa Clara on senior day April 22 at noon.
