#10 Women's Water Polo Falls To #5 Hawai'i

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 10 Pacific women's water polo team was topped by No. 5 Hawai'i, 14-9, Friday to open the UCSB Winter Invite. Kyra Christmas and Karolina Hlavata each scored three times for the Tigers.

Aelish Guinn, Rachel Krieger and Viktoria Tamas also added goals for Pacific.

Hawai'i jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and kept the Tigers at bay. Christmas' first goal came three minutes in, pulling the Tigers within 2-1, but Claire Nixon and Samantha Malouff scored back-to-back for the Wahine to before the end of the first.

Hlavata tallied to open the second quarter, but Nikki-Marie Bell answered right back. Hlavata struck again to pull within 5-3, but the Tigers traded goals with Hawai'i until the end of the half. Hlavata, Guinn and Kreiger posted second quarter goals, with the Tigers trailing 8-5 at the break.

Hawai'i posted a 3-0 third quarter, and four fourth quarter goals from Tamas and Hlavata with two from Christmas settled on the final margin.

Ymane Hage made seven saves in goal for Hawai'i, while Alexis Hollinrake recorded six saves with four steals.

Pacific falls to 1-2 overall this season, while Hawai'i is now 1-0.

The Tigers will face No. 3 UCLA Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and then take on Pomona-Pitzer at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be at the UCSB Rec Center Pool.
