Okay LOGAN, Utah – The Pacific women's volleyball team fell to Utah State in five sets (25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 10-15) Friday night to open tournament play at the Aggies annually-hosted event.
Errors proved to be costly for the Tigers in all three sets lost, collecting a total of eight errors in the each of the second, third, and fifth sets.
In set one the Tigers were stronger offensively, hitting .314. Leading Pacific all over the court was Emily Baptista with five kills, four digs and a service ace.
Set two and three went to the Aggies as they held Pacific to hitting just .184 and .125, respectively.
It looked as though the Aggies were going to take set four after garnering an 11-4 lead, but with a 9-3 Tiger run Pacific was able to even the score at 14-14. Utah State, which hit a match-low .091 in the set, never regained control and dropped the set 22-25.
Forcing a final set, the Tigers came out strong, but after a 5-5 tie score the Aggies won the next four points to give a gap that Pacific would not be able to overcome, falling 15-10.
