Tigers To Make Their First Of Two Trips To Portland
This Week In Tiger Volleyball
After taking on No. 2 Stanford midweek on the road, the Tigers head back out of Stockton for a their first of two trips to Portland, Ore. Pacific heads to the Great Nothwest for two-day, three-match stay at the Portland State Tournament. While in Portland, the Tigers will take on Oklahoma (Fri., Sept. 6), Utah State (Sat., Sept. 7), and the host Vikings (Sat., Sept. 7).
While at PSU, the Tigers will face three opponents that they have a history with, some more recent than others. Against the Sooners, Pacific is a perfect 5-0, however the two teams have not met since the 1998 season. This season, Oklahoma enters the weekend on the verge of the top-25 having picked up enough points in the AVCA poll to sit one spot back of No. 25 BYU. The Aggies of Utah State, a former conference foe of the Tigers has the most experience against Pacific, however that experience has come at a cost of a 29-6 record in favor of the Tigers. The last meeting in 2011 came during Pacific's tournament win at the Southern Utah Invitational in a match the Tigers swept in three.
Against the host Vikings the Tigers are just 3-2 all-time but have won the last two meetings including a 3-0 sweep of Portland State last season at Pacific's Bankers Classic. In a battle, Pacific won 25-21, 27-25, 25-20, to secure its third straight tournament title.
