Just two years removed from her playing days at Pacific, Tiger alum Svenja Engelhardt (2007-10) is making her mark on the international stage as the former standout has been named to the German National Team for the upcoming summer competitions.
The German National Team is preparing for the European Championships in September 6-14 as the title for the best team is Europe is up for grabs once again. The 29th edition of the Championships will be held in sites in Germany with the finals held in Switzerland. For Svenja and the Germans they will play in pool A alongside of Turkey, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Along with the upcoming European Championships, Engelhardt has been playing with her national side in the European League. The annual continental volleyball tournament was introduced in 2009 for the women's sides and will take the Germans throughout Belgium, Serbia, Israel, and Bulgaria. Additionally, Engelhardt and the team will play in minor tournaments throughout the summer in preparation for the European Championships, including the Montreux Volley Masters, which is held from May 28 – June 2 in Montreux, Switzerland. The Germans are in pool B along with the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Japan.
Engelhardt joined her home countries national side after plying her trade professionally with her club team of Stuttgart. Engelhardt has been with Stuttgart for two seasons after transferring to the German club from SVS Post Schwechat in Vienna, Austria where she played her first professional season.
Svenja finished her career among Pacific's all-time greatest players as she posted 1,386 career kills, No. 9 in Pacific's record books. Her 175 career aces ranks No. 2 on Pacific's all-time aces list while her 0.45 ace per game total tied for the all-time best per game average among Pacific servers.
