Women's Tennis Stopped by Aggies

STOCKTON, Calif. -  Ioana Popescu earned her first collegiate point as a Tiger in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, but the Pacific women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center Saturday afternoon falling to UC Davis, 5-2.

The Tigers hit their first obstacle in doubles, dropping all three matches. The pair of Anneroos Nederstigt and Karina Vyrlan brought the match to a tie-break, but couldn't prevail as they lost the point, 7-6(5).

In singles, Maayan Sela collected a point for the Tigers rolling over her opponents in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. At No. 1 singles, Vyrlan took the first set, 6-4, but the opposing Aggie came back to take the next two sets, 6-2, 6-2 and the point. Anna Ramos Vinolas also took her first set, 6-4, but once again the Aggies came back to take the point, 6-2, 6-2.

The Tigers are now 2-1 heading into next weekend's road trip.

The Orange and Black head to the state of Oklahoma for a pair of matches. On Saturday, Feb. 17 the Tigers take on the Oklahoma Sooners at 10 a.m. followed by a duel with No. 18 Oklahoma State on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m.
