Tigers Continue At Saint Mary’s Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. - The second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational wrapped up and the Pacific women's tennis team earned a collection of wins.

In singles, Anna Ramos Vinolas was still in the main draw after Friday's win and faced off against the No. 3 seed, but couldn't grasp the win as she fell, 6-4, 7-5.

Maayan Sela made it to the quarterfinals of her consolation bracket as she first defeated Stephanie Yamad from UC Santa Barbara, 6-2, 6-1. Sela then fell in the quarterfinal match, 6-0, 6-2 to San Jose State's, Miyo Kobayashi. Anneroos Nederstigt found herself in a similar situation as she also competed in the Flight A singles consolation match. She picked up the first-round win, 6-3, 6-1 to move on to the quarterfinals where she battle with Tamara Culibrk of San Jose State and was edged by the Spartan, 6-3, 6-4.

In Flight B singles, Sabrina Rodriguez will be in the semifinal match on Sunday after she picked up multipe wins in the main draw. In her first match of the day, she quickly took down the No. 5 seed from San Jose State, 7-5, 6-4. Then in a back and forth match going three sets, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-3, Rodriguez nipped Zoey Nelson of Eastern Washington. She will face off with Rylee Braeden of Eastern Washington Sunday morning as she looks to move on to the finals.

Yuki Asami was competing in the Flight B singles consolation bracket where her first match was against Sonoma State's Jenna DeTurk. Asami was edged, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(3).

In doubles, Nederstigt and Sela battled a duo from UC Davis but couldn't pull off the win as they lost a close one, 8-7(4), which then brought them to the extra doubles consolation bracket where they fell in yet another close match, 8-7(5).

Meanwhile, Asami and Ramos Vinolas also dropped another close match, 8-7(5), but found their groove in the extra doubles consolation bracket collecting a win, 8-6.

The final day of the Invitational will begin Sunday morning starting with doubles followed by singles matches.
