Sela, Tigers Drop Matches at Battle in the Bay

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pacific women's tennis had another hard fought day at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Maayan Sela wrapped up Saturday play with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson in a consolation match.

"Maayan competed well and had opportunities to be up 5-4 in the first set instead of losing 6-3, but that is tennis and now we know we have to go home and work on a plan to hopefully change our outcome next weekend. The nice thing is we have plenty of opportunities ahead of us," said head coach Tina Samara.

In doubles, Anneroos Nederstigt and Sela fell to San Jose State's Tamara Culibrk and Julie Vereecke, 8-4.

Samara added, "This was a tough weekend in terms of wins and losses, but looking back a year ago there have been a lot of improvements that just unfortunately are not resulting in wins yet."

The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow with a doubles match agains USF at 9 a.m., while Nederstigt is set to take on San Francisco's Alisha Sharma at noon.
