STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific's Karina Vyrlan and Anneroos Nederstigt each advanced in their qualifying matches Sunday at the 2017 USTA Stockton Challenger.
At stadium court, Vyrlan defeated Elvena Gervargiz 6-4, 6-4. In set two she found herself down 2-0 before winning five straight games to prevail.
Nederstigt followed on stadium court with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win against Eva Raszkiewicz. She jumped out to an early lead in set two, and never trailed moving on to the next round of qualifiers.
Vyrlan will face Kristina Smith Monday in the second match-ups of the day, following the 9 a.m. round. Nederstigt will take on Ena Shibahara in her second qualifier on Monday as well, also in the "not before 10:00 a.m." timeslot.
The victories earned points for each in the ITA rankings.
Mayaan Sela fell in her qualifying round to Ingrid Neel, who's most known for clinching the NCAA title for Florida as a freshman.
Sela and Vrylan will be in action in doubles on Monday as well.
