FULLERTON, Calif. - The Tigers fell to Cal State Fullerton 6-1 on Saturday, giving Pacific a split for the weekend. The loss brings Pacific to 5-5 on the year while the victory brings the Titans to 13-1 this season.
"We struggled in doubles today against a strong Fullerton team," said head coach Tina Samara. "It was nice to see a few players turn that around in their singles matches, but we need to continue to improve as we start conference play. Roos and Maayan did a good job of putting themselves in positions to win but unfortunately fell short. Anna showed great fight, saving five match points for the win."
Fullerton swept the Tigers in doubles to grab the first point on the day. Maayan Sela/Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell 6-0 at the one spot while Anneroos Nederstigt/Sabrina Rodriguez dropped their match at the two 6-1. At the three spot Yuki Asami/Anna Ramos Vinolas lost 6-2.
In singles, Ramos Vinolas put the Tigers on the board as she won 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-8 at the four spot. Both Sela and Nederstigt went the distance in their matches, with Sela falling 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 at the top singles spot and Nederstigt losing 7-6 (7), 4-6, 10-7 at the two. Sabrina Rodriguez struggled at the five spot, falling 6-3, 6-1 and Asami also fell 6-0, 6-3 at six.
The Orange and Black return home next weekend as they kick off conference play against LMU on Friday at 2 PM. The Tigers will then take on Pepperdine next Saturday at noon.
