Moraga, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team posted three doubles wins Friday at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational, as Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz and Maayan Sela teamed for a win and Sabrina Rodriguez was part of two wins.
Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz and Maayan Sela posted an 8-1 win in the Round of 16 over Lani Rae Green and Nikita Pradeep of UC Davis, but were edged out by second-seeded Jana McCord and Jacqueline Pelletier of Saint Mary's, 8-6, in the quarterfinals of Flight A.
Sabrina Rodriguez teamed up with Claire Bouquet of Cal Poly in the Doubles B draw and posted back-to-back wins over teammate pairings. In the round of 16, they downed Madison Clarke and Elizabeth Stephens of Santa Clara, 8-7 (5). In the Quarterfinals, Rodriguez and Bouquet topped second-seeded Carolina Chernyetsky and Sofia Wicker of Sacramento State, 8-7 (4). The tandem will face Santa Clara's Zeina El Tawil and Caitlyn Frankel on Saturday.
In singles play, Sela battled back after the first set against San Francisco's Emily Maxfield, but Maxfield pulled it out in a tie-breaker, 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Also in the Flight A round of 32, Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell to Kareena Manji of Saint Mary's, 6-2, 6-2.
Abigail Bacharach of Cal Poly topped Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 32 in Flight B.
Doubles play will continue Saturday for Rodriguez, while the rest of the Tigers will participate in the consolation side of their respective brackets.
