Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team was edged by Santa Clara, 4-2, Friday at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

Viktoriya Dzyuba won her seventh in a row at first singles, moving to 11-1 on the season, while Dzyuba & Anneroos Nederstigt ran their doubles record to 4-1.

Pacific opened strong, picking up the doubles point as Dzyuba & Nederstigt made quick work of Nabila Farah & Daniella Silva, 6-0.  In third doubles, Zeina El Tawil & Delphine Rouvillois topped freshmen Maayan Sela & Sabrina Rodriguez, 6-2. But Katie Dyson & Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fought off Chelby Cooke & Madison Clarke, 6-4, to put Pacific up 1-0 headed into singles.

Dzyuba opened singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Cooke, while Sela won her first set. The Broncos charged back as Rouvillois leveled the match with a win over Dyson at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2. Farah thwarted a second-set comeback bid by Rodriguez, 6-2, 7-5 at fifth singles. At sixth singles, El Tawil topped Yuki Asami, 6-4, 6-2.

As Pacific trailed 3-2, Silva won the third set over Sela, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at second singles to clinch the match.

Saenz deBuruaga Ruiz had just taken a third set lead on Clarke, 6-3, 2-6, 6-5, but the third singles match went unfinished.

"We didn't get the win today but we got what we needed: We gained some serious confidence today with our doubles as well as the start of our singles matches," head coach Charlotte Scatliffe said. "The Broncos used their upperclassman experience and battled us hard. We look forward to a good week of practice before back to back WCC matches against LMU and Pepperdine next weekend."

The Tigers fall to 6-7 overall on the season, and 1-2 in WCC play. Santa Clara improves to  7-5 overall, 1-1 in WCC action.

Pacific will head to southern California next weekend for a Friday WCC contest at Loyola Marymount (1:30 p.m.) and a Saturday conference match at Pepperdine (11:00 a.m.)
