Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Women's Tennis team won yet another 4-3 decision, this time with a home victory over Brigham Young in its West Coast Conference opener on Saturday, March 7. With the win at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts, the Tigers improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in WCC action, while the Cougars dropped to 5-6 and 1-2 in league play. All of Pacific's six victories this year have been 4-3.
The Cougars took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The Tigers bounced back with singles wins from Iveta Masarova, Hana Ritterova, and Antonella Santeusanio to even the match. Christiana Ferrari clinched the match for the Tigers with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Ware.
"Today our main focus was that everybody had a role and that we had to think of the team first," said Head Coach Charlotte Scatliffe. "After losing the doubles point in a close battle the Tigers came back extra focused and pumped as a team to take it to the Cougars in singles. Christiana Ferrari played some of her best tennis today and clinched the match in straight sets giving us a convincing win. We are looking forward to our match against Cal poly tomorrow focused on having another good day!"
The Tigers return to action with a home match against Cal Poly on Sunday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m.
