Fresno, Calif.- At the second day of the Bulldog Classic, sophomore Gergana Boncheva landed a position in the B flight finals after defeating Saint Mary's College competitor Melissa Arthur in straight sets.
Sophomore Regina Suarez also posted a win in her singles competition against Fresno State's Annie Susdorf with a final match score of 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Christiana Ferrari also claimed a victory in the day's match play against Cal State Stanislaus opponent McKenzy Harden in the tiebreak of the second set, 6-0, 7-6(3).
At the conclusion of the second day of match play, Head Women's Tennis Coach Charlotte Scatliffe stated, "For the second day in a row I was quite dissatisfied with our doubles. We have been showing slight improvements but are striving to close out the big points. We have some more doubles matches set up for tomorrow morning and I am expecting the ladies to raise the level of play and get outside their comfort zone to win the big points and inevitably close out games. On the other hand also for the second day straight I was very impressed with Gergana Boncheva's singles play. She took down St Mary's Melissa Arthur in a convincing 6-3, 6-3 match getting her into the finals of tomorrow's B flight. I think the opportunity is deserved as she and I have been working on her mental game and it has paid off."
