Moraga, Calif. - A new doubles tandem paid dividends for Pacific as Iveta Masarova and Regina Suarez posted a pair of victories at the Saint Mary's Invitational Friday.

In the opening round, Masarova and Suarez thumped Washington's pair of Brianna Kemp and Sarah Steele, 8-2. The duo followed that up by outlasting San Jose State's Julianna Bacelar and Sabi Leon-Cheo, 9-7, to advance to the semifinals.

"I was very pleased to see a break through with a new doubles pairing for us this season. I was happy to see Iveta and Regina buy in to our doubles philosophy and adopt a play fast pace aggressive style," head coach Charlotte Scatliffe said. "These two deserved the win and chance at tomorrow's semifinal match. We plan to stick to style of play as the competition only gets more tough, and now that I see what they are capable of, I expect them to keep bringing it."

Masarova and Gergana Boncheva each posted singles victories, as Boncheva rallied from a 6-3 loss in set one to take 6-4 victories in sets two and three over Santa Clara's Jessica Agra.

Masarova cruised over five-seed Catherine Isip of Saint Mary's, taking a straight-set win over the three-time All-West Coast performer, 6-1, 6-2.

"Iveta deserved the day of successes that she had  as she has been stepping it up in practice and the weight room and it's really showing," Scatliffe added.

Early morning rain pushed back the scheduled slate of matches, as the Tigers did not hit the court until after 12:30 p.m. Play resumes tomorrow at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex and Moraga Country Club.
