Berkeley, Calif.- Sophomore Regina Suarez advanced to the finals of the consolation bracket for the Tigers at the Cal Nike Invitational, Saturday.
Though the second day of the tournament brought about a great deal of adversity, the Tigers will look forward to the third day of the competition where sophomore Regina Suarez will compete in the finals of the white consolation bracket after having defeated Ashlyn Schmitgen of Saint Mary's College in straight sets.
Pacific Women's Head Tennis Coach, Charlotte Scatliffe remarked, "Today started out with a much needed rude awakening for both teams. Although we had some great points in each game the Lady Tigers did not have the all out demeanor to earn more than a game each 8 game pro set. Suarez and Boncheva had a much better looking match the 2nd round of doubles that created the momentum the Tigers needed to take it to their opponents in their singles matches. Freshman Christiana Ferrari lost a nail biting 3 set tiebreaker and Gergana Boncheva and Iveta Masarova followed her toughness in their singles play both losing tough battles against top players from their respective teams. The lone win of the day came from sophomore Regina Suarez who stuck to her game plan the entirety of her semi finals of the consolation white draw. She will be playing in tomorrow's finals at noon."
