Confidence as well as strategy proved to aid in the Tigers' success against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors. The doubles competitions all began with a quick pace. This enabled the Tigers to size up their opponents early on in the match. After securing the No. 3 doubles place with ease and a final score of 8-0, the Tigers found their niche. As the doubles matches drew to a close, the Tigers would huddle around their teammates and offer cheers of support and intense focus, reading their opponents in preparation for their singles matches.
As Pacific congregated between the doubles and singles events they gained the insight they needed from Coach Chiene to propel them to the overall match win. In the singles events, five of the six Tigers proved to be victorious.
At the conclusion of the match, Coach Chiene stated, " It is always nice to get a win on the board. Stanislaus State has a very good No.1 singles player who has beat many D-1 players and she and her doubles partner Katie Eng are All Americans in D-2. We had three match points in the #1 doubles match but did not convert. We had already secured the doubles point by then. We then took care of business winning all the singles in straight sets with the exception of freshman Iveta getting beat by an experienced senior D-2 All-American at the #1 singles spot. We will keep working to improve and get ready this upcoming week for our trip to the coast for two important Big West conference matches at UCSB and Cal Poly".
The Tigers now prepare for for their next match against against UC Santa Barbara which is scheduled to take place on February 25th in Santa Barbara, California. This will be Pacific's third conference match of the season. The Tigers are currently 1-1 in the Big West Conference and 4-4 overall.
