Top-Four Finishes Highlight Day Three Of MPSF Championships

Monterey Park, Calif. – Juniors Dai Wilson and Hayley Shillington earned top-four finishes on the third night of the 2013 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships Friday at East Los Angeles College.

Wilson placed fourth in the 100 Fly, clocking in at 47.86. The mark was just two-hundredths of a second behind the school record of 47.84, set back in 2005. Wilson's blistering pace also gave him the first NCAA 'B' cut of his career, becoming the second Pacific swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships this week.

Shillington's time of 1:48.80 was good for fourth in the 200 Free, and was her fastest time of the season by nearly two seconds. The race was Shillington's second top-eight finish of the meet after taking seventh in the 500 Free last night.

Sophomore Cameron Franke joined Wilson as the only other Tiger to earn an NCAA qualifying time on the night, finishing seventh in the 100 Breast behind a time of 55.32.

The Tigers' women's squad had its best night of the meet thus far, recording three top-eight finishes. Freshman Cristina Mardones finished with a time of 4:24.13 in the 400 IM, good for seventh, while both seniors Allie Vetterlein and Mallory McGowan claimed eighth-place finishes. Vetterlein finished eighth in the 100 Fly with a time of 55.33 while McGowan's mark of 1:03.62 was good for eighth in the 100 Breast.
