Pacific Outscored In Dual Meet At UC Davis

Davis, Calif. – The Pacific women's swimming team fell to rival UC Davis, 170.5-112.5, in a dual meet at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday, Jan. 12.

The Tigers are now 3-3 in dual meets on the year, while the Aggies improve to 5-2 in dual meets.

Freshman Cristina Mardones had a strong showing for Pacific, recording the second-fastest times in both the 200 Breast and the 200 IM. She clocked in at 2:20.31 in the 200 Breast and 2:08.94 in the 200 IM.

Pacific's other second-place finish came from senior Mallory McGowan, who finished with a time of 1:05.89 in the 100 Breast. She added a third-place finish in the 100 Free (54.60) and a fifth-place showing in the 50 Free (25.15). Senior Allie Vetterlein recorded Pacific's lone third-place finish, clocking in at 2:09.30 in the 200 IM.

A slew of Tigers recorded fourth-place finishes on the day. Sophomore Annie Sumioka took fourth in both the 50 Free (25.04) and the 100 Free (54.97). Senior Lauren Bugglin finished with a time of 1:01.42 to take fourth in the 100 Back while junior Bo Cameron touched the wall at 2:11.99 in the 200 Back, good for fourth.

Senior Jenna Chaplin finished with the fourth-fastest time in the 500 Free, stopping the clock at 5:12.84. The 100 Fly saw sophomore Dekel Shahaff take fourth with a time of 1:00.43 while junior Lydie Schramm placed fourth in the 1000 Free (10:56.62). 

The Tigers opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The group, made up of Shahaff, McGowan, Vetterlein and Mardones, clocked in at 1:47.08. Pacific wrapped up the day with a fourth-place time in the 400 Free Relay as freshman Zoe Eldridge, Cameron, junior Shannon Van Konynenburg and Vetterlein finished in 3:43.13.

Pacific will continue its training for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships for the remainder of January before resuming competition at Cal Poly on Saturday, Feb. 1.
