McGowan capped a stellar four-year career at Pacific with an impressive showing at the 2013 MPSF Championships. She placed eighth in the 100 Breast (1:03.62), 16th in the 200 Breast (2:20.55) and 24th in the 50 Free (24.16). At the Pacific Invite, she came in third in the 100 Breast (1:04.75), fifth in the 200 Breast (2:22.15) and 10th in both the 50 Free (24.79) and the 200 IM (2:11.72). The UNLV Winter Invite saw McGowan take second in the 100 Breast (1:04.63), third in the 200 Breast (2:20.48) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:09.72). Academically, McGowan was an MPSF All-Academic selection.
One of the top breaststrokers in the MPSF, McGowan had an incredible junior campaign for the Tigers, earning Second Team All-MPSF honors in both the 100 Breast and the 200 Breast. She collected eight event titles on the season, four in each of the two breast events. McGowan earned MPSF Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors after placing first in the 100 Breast in a dual meet at then-No. 6 Stanford, beating the Cardinal’s second-place finisher by nearly one second. All told, she never finished outside of the top four in either breast event, adding six runner-up finishes and a trio of third-place showings. At the 2012 MPSF Championships, McGowan claimed eighth in both breast events, clocking in at 1:03.70 in the 100 Breast and 2:20.13 in the 200 Breast. Both marks ranked first on the team.
McGowan was recognized as an All-MPSF Academic selection. She finished 12th in the 100 Breast (1:04.46) and 18th in the 200 Breast (2:23.62) at the 2011 MPSF Championships, and was also a part of the championship’s fifth-place 200 Medley Relay (1:44.12) and eighth-place 400 Medley Relay (3:50.56) teams. One of Pacific’s most consistent swimmers, McGowan placed in the top five in the 100 Breast in all but one meet and in the top five in the 200 Breast in all but two. First-place finishes in the 200 Breast (2:24.49) against Cal State Bakersfield on Oct. 30, the 100 Breast (1:05.57) at the Quad Meet on Nov. 6, the 200 Breast (2:26.66) versus Stanford on Jan. 8, and both Breast events (1:05.37, 2:23.83) at the Tri Meet on Jan. 22 highlighted her breakout season.
At the 2010 Big West Championships, McGowan came in sixth in the 100 Breast (1:04.98), 12th in the 200 Breast (2:22.37), and 19th in the 200 IM (2:09.01). She was also a member of the 200 Free Relay (1:36.62) and 400 Medley Relay (3:47.92) teams that each finished fourth. McGowan had an impressive freshman season, earning at least one top-five finish in each regular season meet. Top finishes in the 200 Breast (2:27.90) versus Cal State Bakersfield on Oct. 31 and the 100 Breast (1:06.92) against Denver on Jan. 7 highlighted McGowan’s freshman campaign. She would claim five more first-place finishes on the year.
McGowan graduated from Colusa High School in Colusa, Calif., where she set the section record for the 100 Breast (1:04.17) as a senior. She also had a top time in the 200 Free (1:55.15). McGowan earned all-league honors twice and was an All-America selection in the 100 Breast. She also played soccer and ran track. McGowan led her school’s soccer team to two Northern Section championships on the way to earning Offensive MVP honors.
McGowan was born in Woodland, Calif., and is the daughter of Ellen and Jim McGowan. She has one younger sister, Hannah. McGowan is majoring in sports medicine and enjoys camping, riding bikes, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
