Women's Swimming Dominates Cal State Bakersfield
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Pacific women's swim team defeated Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Cal State Bakersfield 160-119 Saturday, October 29, in a dual meet at Hillman Aquatic Center.
The Tigers now sit at 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in league meets. CSUB falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in MPSF meets with the loss.
Pacific claimed seven event titles on the day, opening the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. The team, made up of juniors Becca Wyant, Mallory McGowan, and Allie Vetterlein, and sophomore MaryElla Randall, clocked in at 1:47.30.
The Tigers dominated the 200 Free as sophomore Hayley Shillington (1:54.81), senior Jayme Swalin (1:57.44), junior Jenna Chaplin (1:59.23), and sophomore Bo Cameron (1:59.25) claimed the top four spots.
Pacific went 1-2-3 in a trio of events. In the 200 Fly, senior Elena Walterman (2:08.08), Wyant (2:10.04), and freshman Kelsey Boreyko (2:18.82) finished in the top three spots. Shahaf (57.79), Wyant (58.19), and Vetterlein (58.58) did the same in the 100 Fly while the 200 IM saw Vetterlein (2:10.58), Wyant (2:13.63), and freshman Kelsey Crowder (2:15.62) take the top spots.
Randall touched first in the 50 Free with a time of 24.10, marking the second consecutive meet in which she has won that event. McGowan claimed the 200 Breast title, clocking in at 2:24.37. She has now won that event in three straight meets.
Other highlights included runner-up finishes from Boreyko in the 1000 Free (10:34.85), sophomore Shelby Bolin in the 100 Back (1:01.01), McGowan in the 100 Breast (1:05.97), Shahaf in the 200 Back (2:07.72), and Shillington in the 500 Free (5:09.00).
Taking third were sophomore Lydia Schramm in the 1000 Free (10:57.15), freshman Annie Sumioka in the 100 Back (1:01.21), Swalin in the 100 Breast (1:09.61) and 500 Free (5:11.02), Shahaf in the 50 Free (24.69), Randall in the 100 Free (53.31), and senior Lia Santini in the 200 Breast (2:32.49).
The meet concluded with the 400 Free Relay that saw McGowan, Randall, Sumioka, and Chaplin swim the Tigers to a runner-up finish with a time of 3:39.43.
Pacific returns to Kjeldsen Pool for the two-day quad meet on Friday, November 4. Fresno State, Seattle U, and Cal State Bakersfield will participate in the 5 p.m. meet.
