Tigers Fare Well Against Odds, Fall To Nevada 137-100
Reno, Nev. - The Pacific women's swim team did their best against tough conditions but dropped a nonconference dual meet to Nevada 137-100 Friday, October 28.
The Tigers got plenty of outstanding performances on the day as Pacific claimed four event titles. The 400 Medley Relay team, made up of freshman Dekel Shahaf, junior Mallory McGowan, senior Elena Walterman, and sophomore MaryElla Randall, started the meet with a first-place finish, touching the wall at 3:57.72.
Randall also won a pair of individual events, clocking in at 24.55 in the 50 Free and 53.34 in the 100 Free to claim both titles.
Junior Mallory McGowan continued her hot start, winning the 200 Breast with a time of 2:25.03. She has now won that event in back-to-back meets.
The Tigers had numerous swimmers claim runner-up spots. Finishing second were sophomore Hayley Shillington in the 200 Free (1:55.11), freshman Annie Sumioka in the 50 Free (25.59), Walterman in the 200 Fly (2:09.68), and Bolin in the 200 Back (2:09.22). Sumioka was competing in her first collegiate meet.
Freshman Sydni Johanson took third in the 1000 Free (11:03.85) while junior Becca Wyant completed the sweep of the 50 Free, finishing third at 25.75. Freshman Kelsey Boreyko claimed third in the 400 IM (4:46.49), junior Jenna Chaplin touched third in the 200 Fly (2:12.27), and McGowan finished third in the 100 Free (54.73). Shahaf also swam to a third-place finish in the 200 Back (2:11.35) while Shillington took third in the 500 Free (5:13.68).
Other solid performances included fourth-place finishes from senior Jayme Swalin in the 100 Free (55.63) and 200 Free (1:57.83), freshman Kelsey Crowder in the 400 IM (4:46.51) and 200 Back (2:13.26), and junior Allie Vetterlein in the 200 Fly (2:13.53).
The meet concluded with the 400 Free Relay as Shahaf, Swalin, Vetterlein, and Shillington swam the Tigers to a second-place time of 3:37.79.
Pacific is back in action tomorrow when it faces MPSF foe Cal State Bakersfield in a dual meet at 12 p.m.
