Pacific Falls 180-106 At UC Davis In Season Opener
Davis, Calif. - The Pacific women's swimming team fell to UC Davis 180-106 in its season and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener Thursday, Oct. 6.
The Tigers drop to 0-1 (0-1 MPSF) with the loss while the Aggies improve to 1-0 (1-0 MPSF).
Pacific's 200 Medley Relay team, comprised of freshman Dekel Shahaf, juniors Mallory McGowan and Allie Vetterlein, and sophomore MaryElla Randall, kicked off the meet with a second-place finish, touching the wall in 1:46.89.
The Tigers had multiple swimmers claim first place in their respective events. Sophomore Shelby Bolin touched first in the 200 Back with a time of 2:08.24. Senior Jayme Swalin won the 500 Free, clocking in at 5:05.93, while fellow senior Elena Walterman claimed the top spot in the 100 Fly (57.57). Pacific's final top finish came courtesy of Allie Vetterlein, as the junior won the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.41.
The final event of the meet saw the Orange and Black's 400 Free Relay team, made up of Swalin, Shahaf, sophomore Hayley Shillington, and McGowan, claim the top spot, touching the wall at 3:37.86.
Other meet highlights included second-place finishes by Shahaf in the 100 Back (58.33) and the 100 Fly (58.40), Randall in the 50 Free (24.00), and freshman Kelsey Crowder in the 200 IM (2:16.67). Shahaf and Crowder were both making their Pacific debuts.
Junior Becca Wyant claimed third place in the 50 Free with a time of 24.91. Also finishing third were McGowan, who touched the wall at 2:23.31 in the 200 Breast, and Vetterlein, who clocked in at 59.59 in the 100 Fly. Freshman Shannon Mack, in her first meet as a Tiger, finished third in the 200 IM (2:18.66).
Pacific will welcome their alumni back to Kjeldsen Pool this Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. The Tigers then host the annual Pacific Invite over Oct. 14 and 15, which will serve as their official home opener.
