Swalin earned First Team All-MPSF honors in the 1650 Free and was a Second Team selection in the 500 Free. She had an outstanding showing at the 2011 MPSF Championships, finishing third in the 1650 Free (17:01.90), seventh in the 500 Free (4:58.33), and 12th in the 400 IM (4:28.74). Swalin was also a part of the championship’s sixth-place 800 Free Relay and seventh-place 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay teams. She had a pair of first-place finishes in the Quad Meet on Nov. 6, touching the wall first in the 1000 Free (10.26.69) and the 500 Free (5:07.43). Swalin also earned the top time in the 500 Free against Stanford on Jan. 8, coming in at 5:11.44. Her top spots in the 1650 Free (17:31.78) and the 400 IM (4:38.24) helped Pacific defeat Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz on Jan. 22. She also finished first in the 400 IM against UC Davis on Jan. 14, with a time of 4:35.21.
Swalin continued to impress during her sophomore campaign as she was the runner-up in the 500 Free (4:54.44), the 1000 Free (10:01.80), and the 1650 Free (16:49.97) at the 2010 Big West Championships. She was also a part of the championship’s 800 Free Relay (7:29.49), 200 Free Relay (1:36.62), and 400 Free Relay (3:31.63) teams that finished third, fourth, and fourth, respectively. First-place finishes in the 500 Free in the Tri Meet on Nov. 11 (5:08.79), versus Stanford on Jan. 9 (5:05.88), against Fresno State on Jan. 14 (5:07.88), and versus San Jose State on Jan. 23 (5:05.95) highlighted her season. She also came in first in a multitude of other events, including the 200 Free, 200 IM, and 1000 Free, throughout the year.
Swalin had an incredible freshman year for the Tigers, as she was the top finisher in the 500 Free (4:50.95) at the 2009 Big West Championships. She also placed second in both the 1000 Free (9:58.52) and the 1650 Free (16:47.60). Swalin was a member of the third-place 400 Free Relay (3:24.79) and 800 Free Relay (7:31.17) teams. She opened her collegiate career with a runner-up finish in the 400 IM (4:36.62) against California on Oct. 11. Swalin followed that up with two event titles in the Quad Meet on Nov. 1, winning the 1000 Free and the 500 Free with times of 10:2158 and 5:04.93, respectively. She also won the 500 Free versus Stanford on Jan. 10, clocking in at 5:10.07.
Inglemoor HS (‘08):
Swalin graduated from Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Wash., where she earned four letters in swimming. She played a large role in her team’s four consecutive state championships and was recognized as the 4A Washington State Swimmer of the Year as a senior. Swalin garnered All-America honors in the 200 Free, 500 Free, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay, earning the title of Iron Woman in 2007. She also qualified for the U.S. Junior Nationals in the 400 IM and the Short Course Nationals in the 500 Free and 400 IM. Outside of the pool, Swalin was a four-year member of the National Honor Society and was an Academic All-America selection in 2007.
Swalin was born in Seattle, Wash., and is the daughter of Kent Swalin and Mary Lou Hill. She has one sister, Jenna. Swalin is majoring in development and culture change.
