Tigers 4 Seed At WCC Beach Volleyball Championship

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific beach volleyball team will be the No. 4 seed at the 2017 West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball Championship, April 21 and 22 in Santa Monica.

The Tigers will open the double-elimination tournament on Friday, April 21, against number five seed Portland at Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica. The Tigers and Pilots will square off on courts 9, 12, 13, 15, 16.

The winner of the first match will face top-seed Pepperdine at noon, while the loser will play at 3 p.m. Friday in an elimination match.

The Tigers finished the regular season 2-2 against teams in the West Coast Conference (although no conference season was played), with wins over Santa Clara (4-1) and San Francisco (5-0). Pacific fell twice to Saint Mary's.

Pacific's Katrin Gotterba & Maycie LaBass posted the best record for the Tigers, with a 6-5 mark as the second tandem. Top pairing Lexi Elman and Andie Shelton won five matches, while Ashlyn Fleming & Skylar Wine won four as the number five pair. The Tigers' third pairing combined for five victories as Pacific mixed and matched; Emily Baptista & Taylor Poncetta posted three wins, while Baptista & Alex Holt went 1-0. Poncetta & Janine Feldsher split their four matches.


Pepperdine drew the top seed and will not play until noon against the winner of Pacific & Portland, while Saint Mary's is the No. 2 seed and meets No. 7 seed San Francisco at 10:30 a.m.

No. 3 Loyola Marymount and No. 6 Santa Clara will also square off at 9 a.m., the loser of that match meets the loser of Saint Mary's & an Francisco, with the winning team facing the loser of Portland/Pacific at 3 p.m.

The action continues Saturday with four or five matches until a champion is crowed.
