Beach Posts Wins Over Utah, USF

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pacific beach volleyball team won both matches Sunday, topping Utah 3-2 and sweeping San Francisco 5-0.

In the morning match, the Tigers posted a win over Utah as three of the five matches went three sets. Lexi Elman & Andie Shelton prevailed in three sets over Dani Barton & Andora Anae at the No. 1 slot, 22-20, 17-21, 17-15. Katrin Gotterba & Maycie LaBass also pulled out a three-set victory, winning 21-15, 16-21, 15-13 over Bailey Choy & Eliza Katoa at No. 2.

Utah picked up a three-set win at No. 4 as Brianna Doehrmann & Tawnee Luafalemana topped Alex Holt & Janie Feldsher, 21-13, 19-21, 15-13. The Utes posted a win at No. 3, as Torre Glasker & Carly Trueman downed Taylor Poncetta & Emily Baptista, 21-14, 21-18.

Skylar Wine & Ashlyn Fleming won in straight sets, besting Emily Twohig & Megan Boudreaux, 21-19, 21-16, as the Tigers took the match 3-2.


There was very little drama in the second match, as the Tigers swept USF by winning 10 of 11 sets.

Elman & Shelton cruised at No. 1 over Camille Araujo & Nora Buvarp Lavik, 21-13, 21-17, while at No. 5 Wine & Fleming rolled Trish Koutsoukos & Montana Green, 21-13, 21-12. At No. 3, Baptista & Holt rolled in set one over Shannon Levinson & Kate Ashman, but the USF duo battled in set two before the Tigers put away the Dons, 21-13, 23-21.

Poncetta & Feldsher pulled out a win in a tightly contested No. 4 match, downing Dane Miller & Marjolijn Oskam,  21-18, 23-21  At No. 2, Gotterba & LaBass needed three sets, but completed the sweep with a 21-11, 12-21, 15-7, Emily Reed & Carly Lowry.

Pacific improves to 3-5 overall, while Utah falls to 1-4 and USF to 0-5.

Gotterba & LaBass improved to a team-best 6-2 with a third-straight win. Elman & Shelton improved their record to 5-3, while Wine & Fleming also won their third straight match.

The Tigers face Saint Mary's in Moraga on Monday at 3 p.m.
