Final Home Weekend Awaits As Pacific Hosts UC Santa Barbara
May 4, 2011
Week 13 Notes - vs UC Santa Barbara
With just six games to play in the 2011 Big West season, the Tigers sit atop the Big West alongside Long Beach State. With the conference title on the line over the final two weeks of the season, the Tigers will first face off against UC Santa Barbara, a dangerous team who saw their title hopes take a serious hit after being swept by the 49ers last week. Pacific will host the Gauchos at Bill Simoni Field on Friday and Saturday as the Tigers take the field at home for the last time in 2011.
For Pacific, the three critical games come during a hectic time around campus as the Tigers will have to deal with the emotions of a home finale while also beginning the final send off for their seniors with graduation ceremonies taking place around Pacific. Despite the distractions, the Tigers come into the weekend on a high note after taking their first series at Cal State Fullerton since the 1999 season in what was a battle of first place teams entering the weekend. In addition to merely taking the series, Pacific did it in dominating fashion with a pair of mercy-rule victories on Saturday during doubleheader play. The victories marked the first time in series history the Tigers had ever ended a contest early against the Titans as Pacific took 10-0 and 8-0 victories to take the series.
This season, Pacific is 13-4 at Bill Simoni Field with its lone sweep in conference action coming at home two weeks ago against UC Riverside. Against UC Santa Barbara, the Tigers are 37-16 at home throughout the all-time series while holding a 62-38 advantage. Last season, the Tigers swept the Gauchos on the road to pick up their first conference sweep since the 2007 season. The Gauchos enter the weekend 8-7 in the Big West and 24-23 overall after suffering three losses last weekend.
