STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team looks to continue their winning ways this weekend as they head to The Farm for the annual Stanford Nike Invitational. Pacific (3-2) will open up play against Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday at 2PM and then battle UC Santa Barbara immediately after at 4 PM. On Sunday the Tigers close out the tournament against Nebraska-Omaha at 11 AM.
Last weekend at the Easton Invitational, the Tigers dropped their opener 5-3 to Utah State. Marissa Young tossed six innings with just one earned run and four strikeouts and Sydney Lahners hit her eleventh career home run. On Saturday the Orange and Black logged their first win of the season in walk-off fashion as freshman Hailey Reed plated the winning run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lahners for the 2-1 victory. Cassidy Gustafson went the distance, allowing just one run on two hits. On Sunday, Pacific finished up their game from Friday against Cal State Fullerton that was postponed due to rain, taking the 6-0 decision behind Samantha Owen's first collegiate home run. The Tigers closed out their Easton Invitational topping the Titans 3-0 as Gustafson hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Young tossed seven innings with four strikeouts.
This Saturday against Nebraska-Omaha the Tigers will look for their fourth-straight win of the season. Pacific is also eyeing its third-straight shutout victory, which would be their first since 2010 when they swept UC Santa Barbara 7-0, 7-0, and 4-0.
Pacific hosts its home opener Feb. 22nd against San Jose State before the annual Libby Matson Tournament on Feb. 24th-26th. Livestats and video will be available for all these contests.
