STOCKTON, Calif. - Goals by Alex Hussar and Bianca Lopez helped the Pacific women's soccer team shutout visiting Portland 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The victory not only is the first West Coast Conference win this season for Pacific, but is also the first win over Portland in program history.

"This is a big win for the program in showing the change and the build. Beating Portland for the first time in program history is huge, especially a team that is built off of championships," said head coach Kerri Scroope. "It was a total team effort. Alex stepping up big today and we go back to Bianca, who's usually a forward, stepping up and playing huge on the defensive end."

The victory sends Pacific to 4-7-2 overall, 1-1 in WCC play while the loss brings Portland 3-8-1 this season, 0-2 in conference action.

Pacific started off with a quick shot 45 seconds into the game, and continued to press in the 15th minute as Bryndís Rún Thórólfsdóttir received the ball in the middle of the box and took a quick header on target but the Pilot goalie Rachel Lusby made the save.

The Orange and Black got on the board in the 30th as Alex Hussar brought the ball up the left side towards the baseline and fired a shot towards the far right post to give Pacific a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers would make a couple more defensive stands to close out the first half with the lead.

Bianca Lopez made it 2-0 as she ripped a shot from down the field that went perfectly into the top-left corner of the goal for the score and her first goal of the season. The Tiger backline did the rest for Pacific as they notched their first WCC victory of the 2017 campaign.

Regan Heslop made four saves for her second clean sheet of the season. Pacific outshot the Pilots 12-11 in the contest with Hussar leading the pack with four and Kendall Bietsch following with three.

"This is a good momentum builder for us especially going down to San Diego this week," continued Scroope. "We're excited and this is a great statement for our program."

The Tigers hit the road to continue WCC play when they take on San Diego on Oct. 7th at 7 PM and then head up to BYU on Oct. 12th for a 6 PM PDT kickoff.
