Stockton, Calif. - Freshman Zarette Munoz-Aguilar scored the game-winner from 25 yards out as the Pacific women's soccer team defeated Arizona 2-1 on Sunday, September 23 at Knoles Field. With the win the Tigers improved to 3-6 on the season, while Arizona dropped to 5-4-1. Pacific has won three of its last four matches.
"We are building confidence and winning three out of four is a great way to enter conference play," said Tiger head coach Keith Coleman.
The first half was scoreless, though Arizona had seven more chances, outshooting the Tigers 11-4. Two of Pacific's four shots came in the first three minutes. Tiger goalkeeper Kathrine Larsen had five of her seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
Sophomore Sasha Moscatello scored her first career goal at 49:35. Munoz-Agular passed out across from the right side and Moscatello finished to the top right corner. The Tiger defense held strong until the Wildcats broke through when Jazmin Ponce chipped in a shot over Larsen to even it 1-1 at the 83:32 mark. Though it appeared the match was headed for overtime, Munoz-Aguilar found an opening to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead at 89:13. Munoz-Aguilar's goal was at nearly the same spot as Moscatello's, as she put in the right corner of the goal with her left foot.
The Tigers dominated the field in the second half, outshooting the Wildcats 10-4. The Wildcats ended up with a 15-14 advantage in overall shots and 5-2 in corners.
The Tigers are next in action with their first Big West Conference match of the season at Cal Poly on Friday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
