Pacific Women's Soccer Announces 2011 Schedule
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team released its 2011 schedule Friday, which features seven home contests, six matches against NCAA Tournament teams, four Pac-12 opponents, and 13 California rivals, including the eight-match Big West schedule.
"We want to play a tough, challenging non-conference schedule again this year," head coach Keith Coleman said. "And with four NCAA tournament teams, including the national runner up, I think we've once again given ourselves a schedule that will prepare us for Big West play."
The Tigers will open the regular season on August 19, with a Friday night match at home against Nevada. Two days later, the Tigers visit 2010 NCAA runner-up Stanford. The Cardinal, ranked No. 1 most of last season, lost one match last year, the national title game to Notre Dame. Pacific will look to repeat its spring contest, in which the Tigers downed Stanford in Palo Alto on April 17.
On August 26-28, the Tigers visit San Diego for a four-team tournament, as Pacific will face a pair of NCAA tournament teams from last year in host USD (Fri, Aug. 26) as well as Southern Cal (Sun., Aug. 28) which advanced to the NCAA tournament second round last year.
The Tigers renew their Northern California rivalry with Sacramento State on Friday, Sept. 2 in Sacramento, followed by a home match on Friday, Sept. 9 against UNLV.
Pacific then squares off with a pair of Pac-12 teams, facing Arizona (Friday, Sept. 16) and 2010 NCAA tournament participant Arizona State (Sunday, Sept. 18) in a tournament at Arizona, in Tucson.
On Friday, Sept. 23, the Tigers return to Stagg Memorial Stadium to close their non-conference slate with a match against WAC regular season champion San Jose State.
Pacific opens its Big West slate on Friday, Sept. 30 at home against Cal State Northridge, and hosts UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Tigers will visit UC Riverside the following Sunday, Oct. 9 and then make an Oct. 14 trip to UC Davis.
The Tigers will wrap their home schedule on Oct. 21 and 23 against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, before closing the regular season on the road at Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 28) and at Long Beach (Oct. 30).
The top four in the Big West standings will advance to the conference tournament, which will be held at the site of the top two seeds on Thursday, Nov. 3, with the final at the home venue of the top remaining seed on Sunday, Nov. 6.
