Tigers Topped By #2 Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. - The Pacific field hockey team fell to host #2 Connecticut Friday evening with a score of 6-2 as Gaby de Kock and Savannah Burns each notched goals for Pacific.

The Tigers got on the board first with a goal from de Kock as she scrambled in front of the net to slap the ball past the 'keeper in the first 35.

Connecticut quickly tied up the contest as they fired a shot in the upper right corner of the net. They then took the lead when they placed the ball in the right corner again on a penalty corner. The Huskies would strike one more time in the half to give themselves a favorable 3-1 lead.

The second half saw the Huskies score again in the 44th minute to extended their lead to 4-1.

However, the Tigers weren't done as Savannah Burns placed one in the back of the net with the help of Nthabi Maine and Emma Leach off their first penally corner of the game to make it 4-2.

Connecticut would then tack on two more goals during consecutive penalty corners in the 55th and 58th minutes to advance their lead to 6-2.

Marlise van Tonder finished the game with a season high 14 saves.

The Tigers drop to 1-3 overall as the Huskies move to 4-0.

Pacific will take an off day on Saturday before traveling to Lowell, Mass. on Sunday to battle the River Hawks at 9 a.m. PDT. Live stream and live stats are available via PacificTigers.com.
