Louisville, Ky. - Laura Pujade is the NorPac conference Defensive Player of the Week for October 13 through October 20th, the conference office announced this afternoon. The award is the second of the season for the Tigers' sophomore goalkeeper from Matadepera, Spain. Pujade also earned the honor in September.
Pujade tied a career-high with 13 saves against No. 3 Stanford on Friday, keeping the Orange and Black in the game against one of the nation's top teams. In a 3-2 overtime victory over UC Davis on Saturday, Pujade was again vital for Pacific, making a pair of key saves in the final minutes of the contest to preserve the tie score and allow for a comeback victory.
After missing all but one contest last year due to injury, Pujade has had a breakout campaign in 2014, making a splash in the national rankings. Laura leads the NorPac in saves per game (7.00) and is second in save percentage (.778). Those marks are good for eighth and ninth nationally. Her 2.03 Goals Against Average is 38th in the nation.
The Tigers will return to conference play with an east coast road swing to face Liberty on Thursday (3-0 NorPac East) and Appalachian State on Saturday (0-3 NorPac East) in conference clashes to determine seeding in the NorPac Championships in Stockton from Nov. 6-8. The weekend concludes with a matchup against No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday at 12:00 pm PT. The contest will be televised via ESPN3.
