Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific field hockey team returns to competition with the start of its spring schedule on Saturday, March 17. The Tigers will square off with NorPac Conference foe California. The contest is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. in Berkley, Calif.
Leading the Tigers into the spring is the duo of 2011 All-NorPac selections, junior Ashlee Schlesier and sophomore Emily Tregoning. Schlesier is coming off her best season of her career in which she ranked fourth in the country with 9.44 saves per game and 34th in all of Division I with a .722 save percentage. Tregoning heads into the spring after being a force on both sides of the field for the Tigers in 2011. The San Jose, Calif. native, recorded nine shots and one defensive save, while causing opposing attackers fits all year in the midfield.
The Tigers will also look to junior Emily Trudeau for a spark on the defensive side of the field. The defender recorded the second-most defensive saves in Pacific field hockey history with nine, which ranked her third in the nation. Also, given the task of stopping the opposing attack will be Doreen Stern. The redshirt junior is the most experienced of all the Tigers, and will look to carry a leadership role into the spring.
On the offensive attack the Tigers will look to sophomore Melissa Maultsby who collected four goals and one assist last season to tally nine points. Pacific also returns goals from sophomore Paige Counsman and freshmen Tarah Trotter and Malia Robertson.
Pacific will return to action on March 31 with an exhibition on the road against the Stanford Club team at 11:00 a.m. Followed by a home contest against UC Davis on April 15, before concluding the season on April 22 at the Aggies of UC Davis.
