Maultsby Finishes Second At The National FFA Convention

Stockton, Calif. – Pacific Field Hockey sophomore Melissa Maultsby finished second in the nation in the Agricultural Sales – Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award Program at the National FFA Convention. The convention took place in Indianapolis, Indiana over the weekend of October 19.

Maultsby was nominated for the award because she operates a nursery, buying flats and translating them to get bigger varieties of plants. Currently, she has more that 50 plant varieties and markets her successes at swamp meets and online retailers.

She finished second in her category, of an organization that has over 500,000 members. She said of the impressive finish, "it feels great to be second in the nation for my award area. I learned a lot from this experience and made new friendships with my competitors." She added, " it was an honor representing my hometown, the University of the Pacific, and Pacific Field Hockey at a national level."

Maultsby excels on the playing field as well. The forward currently ranks second on the team with five points and two goals. Maultsby will look to lead the Tigers to a win at the NorPac Tournament on November 3 against the Longwood Lancers in Stanford, Calif at 4:00 pm.
