Tigers Travel To Stanford To Take On The No. 9 Cardinal

Stockton. Calif. – The Pacific Field Hockey team travels to Stanford, Calif. to take on the ninth ranked team in the country, Friday, October 14. The contest between the two NorPac foes will begin at 7:00 PM on the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.

The Tigers (2-9) are back in action after a three game swing in Virginia where they battled Longwoood, Richmond and Cirginia Commonwealth. The Cardinal (10-2) are playing their first game since a 6-3 loss at the hands of No. 12 New Hampshire.

For the Tigers to pull the upset it will take a full team effort. Linda MacDonald said of her team, "we need to be consistent, but I know our team is ready for the challenge." She added, "with Stanford coming off a loss they will come out strong, and we have to be prepared."

It will be important for the Tigers midfield and defense of Amanda Spellman, Emily Trudeau, Emily Tregoining, and company to limit the Cardinal's penalty corners. MacDonald added, "one of their strongest parts of their game is penalty corners. So we need to stop the ball early so they do not have those opportunities in our zone."

The offense will look for a quick start from senior Spellman who leads the Tigers with four goals. Sophomore Melissa Maultsby and freshman Tarah Trotter will also look to provide a spark by adding to their combined four goals on the year.

After the Cardinal, the Tigers have three regular season opponents left including Big Ten members Northwestern and Iowa the weekend of October 21 in Illinois. Then the Tigers return home for its annual Pink Game on October 29 against UC Davis on Brookside Field at 1:00 PM.
