Tigers Field Hockey Welcomes Cal In Home Opener

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific field hockey team takes on the California Golden Bears Saturday, September 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Brookside Field. It is the home opener for the Tigers (0-1, 0-1) featuring two NorPac West Division Players of the Week in Pacific's goalkeeper Ashlee Schlesier and California's forward Jordan O'Reilly. Schlesier, a junior from San Diego, Calif. made 15 saves in the season-opener at UC Davis while facing 18 shots on goal and 31 shots for the game.

Head Coach Linda MacDonald was excited about her keeper and hopes she continues her fine play saying, "she is fast and quick, so all she needs to do is keep her composure and be patient."

The Tigers are coming off a season-opening loss at UC Davis where they gained a lot of experience. Pacific played a terrific first half highlighted by Amanda Spellman's first goal of the season, and Schlesier's seven save shutout first half.

California (2-0, 0-0) is an early favorite to win the NorPac Conference so it will be crucial for the Tigers to play a high-quality game. "We definitely have to play for 70 minutes, come out strong and be aggressive because they are a top 25 team" MacDonald added.

The Golden Bears return to California after opening its season with wins against No. 16 Louisville and No. 13 Michigan State.

Sunday, the Tigers will host their annual Alumni Game at 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Field. MacDonald is excited to welcome back former players saying, "it is a fun time for the alums and team, plus it gives us an opportunity to work on things before we head east to play Brown, Providence and Bryant."

Following the Alumni Game, the Tigers will travel to Rhode Island for road contests against Brown, Providence and Bryant.
