Oliver Simkovic Named MPSF Men's Swimmer of the Week

Woodland, Calif. - Less than one month into his collegiate career at Pacific, Oliver Simkovic (Vienna, Austria) of the men's swim team was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation male swimmer of the week on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

In his first meet in the orange and black, Simkovic came away with three top five finishes in individual races and a fifth place relay finish against Stanford. As a part of the 200 Medley Relay, he helped the team earn a fifth place finish (1:37.99). During his first two events, Simkovic placed fifth in the 100 Back (53.36) and fourth in the 200 Back (1:54.28). He also ended the meet by winning the 400 IM (4:15.53), and set new season bests in the events for the Tigers.

Simkovic and Pacific's men's swim team returns to the pool in Saturday, January 22 at noon. The Tigers will host Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz in the final home meet of the season at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. On this day Pacific will honor graduating seniors Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.), David Hernandez (Chico, Calif.), Steven Woods (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Chris Berg (Chico, Calif.).
